We’ve all heard the old adage, and it is especially true when it comes to your joints.
Many of us are staying home secondary to the Covid-19 pandemic, and rightfully so. Trying to #FlattentheCurve and reduce risk to ourselves and our community. Gyms are closed; outside activities limited, but that doesn't mean we cannot stay fit and workout at home. There are many at-home workout regimens from simple squats and push-ups to workout apps to those among us with home gyms and exercise machines.
As we age, many of us suffer from a loss of joint mobility: that stiff feeling as you get out of bed in the morning or knee and hip aches when you get out of your car after driving for a long distances. Knees, hips, shoulders and elbows are common culprits. Less obvious, but even more important, are the joints of the spine. An exercise routine focusing on stretching and core and leg strengthening can help maintain joint mobility and improve balance and reduce risks of injury.
I know it's hard to motivate at home, especially trying to work, corral kids and manage the stress of everything going on. Try. Download an app, YouTube; remember this as the one time a physician recommends "googling" something!
Even a simple 10 minute stretch or 20 minute bodyweight strengthening routine can keep you fit and sane!
